Paper
or Styrofoam?
Recycled cardboard is
a good choice for the lunch trays that are used in schools. It is a much better
choice than Styrofoam for many reasons. Two of the most important reasons are that
cardboard is biodegradable and recyclable.
Styrofoam, on the other hand, it is not biodegradable, and it is very
expensive to recycle. Some of the other reasons that recycled cardboard is good
to use are it reduces waste in landfills, it saves trees, and it reduces
pollution. Since the cardboard can be set aside for recycling, it is not being
added to our constantly growing landfills. Old paper products are used in
recycled cardboard, so new trees don't have to be cut down to make new
cardboard, therefore, less carbon dioxide is released into the air. When trees
are saved, more carbon dioxide is absorbed by them, more oxygen is released
into the air, and many species of wildlife are saved since their habitats
aren't being destroyed. Less pollution is created in the production of recycled
cardboard and paper than in the production of new paper products. There are a
number of reasons why Styrofoam is bad for the environment. Even though it can
be recycled, it is cheaper to make new, and very few things can be made with
recycled Styrofoam. Recycling Styrofoam is expensive and creates lots of
pollution that harms the environment. Used Styrofoam usually ends up in a
landfill, and since it is not biodegradable, it sits there forever. Some
Styrofoam is made of chlorofluorocarbons, and these chemicals are very harmful
to people, animals, and the ozone layer that surrounds the planet Earth.
Recycled cardboard is clearly a better choice than Styrofoam for something used
in such large quantities as school lunch trays. Every time a Styrofoam lunch
tray is used, it ends up in a landfill, creates more pollution, and harms the
environment. If recycled lunch trays were used, there would be less disruption
to the planet's ecosystems, some animals might be saved from extinction, and
schools would be helping to improve the future of the planet. When students
grow up they should know that they helped to make the world a better place.

Neighborhood Playground
To: The City Council
I am writing you this letter
hoping to explain why Rahway would like a Neighborhood Playground. We were imagining the playground to have
blue and red swings, some yellow slides, green monkey bars, and some orange
balancing beams. We were also thinking about having a rock climbing wall, a
basketball hoop, and a volleyball net. We can also plant some colorful flowers
and beautiful trees. The playground
would have some benches and picnic tables for all to enjoy.
I think the City Council
should really consider giving Rahway this playground. It would help give us kids a safe place
to run around and enjoy the outdoors.
Adults can also enjoy the playground. They can sit and enjoy the fresh air or
read a book while the kids have fun.
It can be a place for everyone to enjoy. I hope this letter helps you make a
decision in our favor. We hope you
see the benefits and joy it would bring to our town. Who knows, maybe you will come and enjoy
our new playground with us!
Sincerely,
Amanda Badillo

The
Journey
Sent out on an
expedition
Two young men
didn’t know
That their
meeting one another
Would change
the waters below
CHORUS
The Journey to
the Fox and to the Wisconsin
Is a journey
that led to the great Mississippi
Waters so calm
with new discovery
A land shared
with the Indian
Their journey
was not easy
But they were
welcomed along the way
Funny looking
fish and buffalo grazing
Marquette and
Joliet claimed the waters that bright day
CHORUS
The Journey to
the Fox and to the Wisconsin
Is a journey
that led to the great Mississippi
Waters so calm
with new discovery
A land shared
with the Indian
